When Colin & I were looking for property in Cornwall, whilst living in London, we found the logistics not only time comsuming but extremely frustrating. Trying to find your ideal home is difficult at the best of times, but when you're moving 250 miles away it threatens becoming a nightmare, particularly when you've spent valuable time sifting through piles of properties, only to find a mere handful meeting the specifications you stated as a must! Sure it's fun at first, as you're full of enthusiasm and love looking through all the property details - and low-and-behold after a week or two of careful consideration (and a large sackful of paper for recycling) you've actually found not just one, but three real gems! So with hope in your heart you've made the appointments for the viewings, booked a room in a suitably located hotel/B&B, and can't wait for the weekend to arrive.

Now this is the point where you will need to arm yourself with a really good map of the area (with street names & remote country lanes noted within it), but more importantly you will need almost inexhaustible optimism & a great sense of humour, because take it from one who knows, I don't think even David Bailey could surpass the estate agents efforts in making the proverbial 'Silk purse out of a sow's ear' as well as they can!

On one of our many property hunting trips we went to look at a property that ticked all the boxes, only to find that it was situated in a road that turned out to be one of the narrowest roads I'd ever seen, and the property was located about 1-2, toe curling, miles down it. Flushed with the triumph of having negotiated the drive unscathed (with, I'm convinced, a lot of help from God) we arrived at the property only to stand transfixed, staring in horror at a pig farm, which had an old ramshackled rusty metal construction that had mysteriously materialised behind our idyllic country 'dream house'.

Then there was a property the estate agent whimsically described as a 'chocolate box' house - It soon became apparent that it needed fairly extensive renovating & fumigating throughout (I was gagging within 5 minutes of being inside) as it smelt rank - a heady mixture of wet dogs & something I didn't want to speculate on).

At one point we had become so fed up, with the constant toing-and-froing, that we nearly purchased a house in Bodmin purely as a stepping stone to finding our ideal property. We soon came to our senses though when we considered the cost involved (Stamp duty, legal fees & the estate agent's commission). Fortunately for us, before too much longer, a house turned up that was so close to what we were looking for that we decided to buy it.

So when hunting for that frustratingly elusive 'Dream property', brace yourself for the unexpected along the way as, like us, you might find yourselves exploring some relatively uncharted territory before finally finding the right road, and with any luck the right property!

We have since moved house in Cornwall, and although this still entailed going on all the 'wild goose chases', at least this time around we were close enough to be able to view the location, situation, and the exterior of the property before deciding whether to proceed to the viewing. This saved us countless wasted hours making polite conversation to the owners of a property we disliked from the outside.

As the saying goes 'every cloud........', and as a direct result of our own experiences of the down side of property hunting the seeds of an idea grew, why not offer a professional relocation service to people who are, like we were, looking for property in Cornwall? A service that will save hours sifting through endless amounts of unsuitable property details, and saving countless fruitless trips. As we have over 20 years experience working in various aspects of the property market between us, we realised a relocation company would sit quite comfortably alongside our current business (A Property Search service).
